Nyummm, actually, my grandmother from Johor has made this noodle this before for Marhaban. And I thought it was so delicious. It's much more flavourful compare to the one that's made from sambal. I love the beef(flavor), hotness from blackpepper ,sourness from pickles and of course it's better with fried shallots. I have no idea that it's a singaporean style noodles though o.O But my grandmother rarely makes this dish, actually i think the only tme she made is for the Marhaban , haha xD
ReplyDeleteThank you Mialia Amelia, for sharing your interesting experience with this dish. Johore, Singapore being the closest neighbour many of us too have relatives on both sides. As time passes we've lost touch and our lifestyle has changed many of us. Not much info on the origin, simply something that I've tasted back in the old days;D
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna try making this bihun some day. I like it so much, the marhaban event that I mentioned was like 8 years ago but I still can remember the taste, haha. I guess my grandma doesnt make this dish that often because it seems like there are many components to this dish. Actually I only know that this noodle is called Singaporean Bihun like yesterday, >.< I always see people posting recipes of Singaporean Bihun, but I didn't read it, aishhh. Should've done that earlier. Anyway Im glad that I found your channel.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find most amazing most of us remember the exact taste, that's how experienced cooks those days able to make a variety. It's all come naturally with passion, thru' trial and error, be it failure or success. Thanks for visiting, nice to hear lots from you!
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for this recipe for ages. My dad used to buy for me when I was a little girl and I really love the taste. He used to buy from Craven A in 70's Penang. Thank You
